University of Coimbra

By signing “Scientiae Thesaurus Mirabilis”, King Dinis created the oldest university of the country and one of the oldest in the world. With over seven centuries, the University of Coimbra has a unique tangible and intangible heritage, keystone in the scientific culture of Europe and the World, a capital that the University of Coimbra has applied to UNESCO World Heritage. The University of Coimbra (UC) has recently been awarded 5 stars in the QS ranking for teaching, innovation, research, facilities, employability, internationalization, innovation and inclusiveness.

Centre for Classical and Humanistic Studies (CECH)

Since its foundation (1967), CECH distinguished itself by building a matrix of philological research (language, literature and culture), which has made it a reference centre for Greek, Latin and Neo-Latin (Medieval and Renaissance) Studies in Portugal, and a preferential interlocutor for international partners. Reception Studies are also distinctive of CECH in the sense of analysing the rewriting of great myths, but also including the translation and performance of ancient theatre, through the Thiasos group and the Classical Theatre Festival. This methodological framework finds its theoretical support in the philosophical research undertaken by the hermeneutical rationality researchers. This theoretical grounding simultaneously unveils the inner logic of the interpretive renewals of tradition and myths, allowing to better grasp cultural heritage and its projection in the horizon of contemporary Europe. This research Centre will be the primary funding institution.

Portuguese Association for Classical Studies (APEC)

The main goal of APEC is to contribute for the progress and dissemination of Classical Studies, to encourage research in this area, to support Latin and Greek teachers outside Academia, and to promote events which make an impact on the development of Classical Studies in Portugal.
